Stage 1 — Bill review

Send us a recent JdVVNL bill on WhatsApp. We read three things from it: your monthly units, your sanctioned load, and your consumer category. That is enough to come back with an indicative system size and a price range before anyone travels to your house.

We read units rather than the rupee figure because tariff slabs change and units do not. A bill of ₹8,000 means different things in different slabs.

Stage 2 — Site survey

An engineer visits and spends time on the roof. Measured: usable shade-free area, shading through the day, roof structure and slab condition, existing earthing, meter position and the cable route from array to meter. You receive the findings in writing regardless of whether you proceed.

Stage 3 — Design and written quote

You get a fixed written quote listing the exact panel model and wattage, inverter make and model, structure specification and height, cable sizing, protection devices, the scope of civil work, the timeline and the payment schedule. Nothing verbal, nothing that changes after the advance.

Stage 4 — JdVVNL application and subsidy registration

We prepare and submit the net-metering application to Jodhpur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited and register your PM Surya Ghar application on the national portal. What we need from you at this stage:

  • Recent electricity bill and consumer number
  • Identity and address proof
  • Proof of property ownership, or owner's consent if you are a tenant
  • Bank account details for the subsidy credit

This stage runs on DISCOM and portal timelines, not ours. We chase it; we do not control it.

Stage 5 — Installation on site

Order of work on the roof:

  1. Structure. Hot-dip galvanised mounting frame set out, levelled and fixed — or ballasted where we are avoiding slab penetration.
  2. Modules. Panels mounted, clamped and torqued, rows spaced so they do not shade each other and there is room to walk for cleaning.
  3. DC side. String wiring in UV-rated conduit, correctly sized, with DC isolator.
  4. Inverter and AC side. Inverter mounted in a shaded, ventilated position, AC cabling run to your distribution board, AC isolator and surge protection fitted.
  5. Earthing. Dedicated earth pits for the array and inverter. This is the part nobody sees and the part that matters most in a lightning event.
  6. Testing. String voltages, insulation resistance, earth continuity and inverter commissioning checks, recorded.

A typical residential system is one to three days of on-site work depending on size, roof access and structure height.

Stage 6 — Inspection and commissioning

JdVVNL inspects the installation and installs the bidirectional net meter. Once the meter is in and the connection is approved, the system goes live and export credit begins accruing.

Stage 7 — Subsidy claim and handover

Subsidy documentation is submitted with the commissioning report. You receive the handover pack: panel and inverter datasheets, warranty certificates, the single-line diagram, test records and the AMC schedule. Keep this pack — it is what a future buyer of your house will ask for.

Where delays actually come from

Being straight about this saves everyone frustration. In practice the physical installation is rarely the bottleneck. Delays cluster in three places: DISCOM application processing and inspection scheduling, net-meter availability, and subsidy disbursal on the portal. All three are government-side. Any installer promising you a precise end-to-end date is promising you something they do not control — we give a realistic range instead, and tell you when something has slipped.
